Year 2 2022 - 2023

Miss Boyd

Welcome Year Two's class page.

Welcome to Year Two! Miss Boyd is the class teacher and Mrs Campbell and Miss Northend are our teaching assistants.

Here you will find details of our routines and other information about our curriculum. If you have any further questions, I am available at the end of each school day. Alternatively, you can email me at

Our topic for this first half term is 'Bright Lights, Big City', a Geography and History based topic. We will be exploring the human and physical features of the four countries of the United Kingdom and their capital cities. We will be diving further into our learning about London by time travelling back to 1666 to learn all about the Great Fire of London. We are so lucky to continue our Art learning with Mrs Taylor, our resident artist. If you would like further information regarding the curriculum in Year Two, please follow this link:

Reading Books

Reading plays a vital role in developing your child’s education. We will continue with daily Guided Reading lessons in school, but your support at home is invaluable. Your child will be sent home with a reading book and reading record. Most children will also receive a phonics book which will be changed once a week. This book will match your child's current phonics knowledge and should be a celebration of their wonderful independent reading. Please try to read every night; every second counts! Please remind your children to put their finished books in the finished box, so we can change the books as frequently as possible.

Our PE sessions are on a Monday and Thursday, but we aim to get outside and active as much as possible throughout the week. Therefore, please ensure your child has a fully labelled kit in school all week, should any changes in the timetable occur. Earrings must be removed on PE days. If your child has recently had their ears pierced, they should come to school with their ears taped on PE days.

Homework is now set in a homework book. Homework is due in on a Wednesday ready to be marked and handed back out on a Friday.

Children in Year Two have a weekly spelling test. The ten spellings will be sent home on a Friday and the test will be on the following Friday. It is not necessary to bring the completed sheet back into school, this is purely for your child to practise their spellings at home.
