Year 2 2020 - 2021

Miss Boyd

Welcome Year Two's class page. Here you will find details of our routines and other information regarding the curriculum in Year Two.

Our Topic this half term is 'Oh I Do Like To Be Beside the Seaside'. We will be exploring the geographical aspects of the seaside, including where seasides are located in the UK and what physical and human features they have. In Science, we will be identifying the materials that we can find at the seaside and exploring their suitability. We are very lucky to also have Mrs Taylor with us this term, therefore we will be completing a range of seaside themed art projects! Thank you to everyone who has sent in a lovely postcard from the Summer. I have loved reading them and they are proudly on display in our classroom. Reading Books

Reading plays a vital role in developing your child’s education. We will continue with daily Guided Reading lessons in school, but your support at home is invaluable. Your child will be sent home with a reading book and reading record. Please try to read every night; every second counts! Please remind your children to put their finished books in the finished box, so we can change the books as frequently as possible.

Our PE sessions are on a Thursday, but we aim to get outside and active as much as possible throughout the week. Therefore, please ensure your child has a fully labelled kit in school all week, should any changes in the timetable occur. Earrings must be removed on PE days. If your child has recently had their ears pierced, they should come to school with their ears taped on PE days.

Homework will now be set online. This usually will be through Purple Mash, but I will notify you via email if there are any changes. I will set the homework on a Friday to be completed by the following Thursday. Your child’s logins for Purple Mash will remain the same as last year. Please email me (see below) if you need this information sharing again. Homework setting will commence on Friday 11th September.

Children in Year Two will now have a weekly spelling test. The ten spellings will be sent home on a Friday and the test will be on the following Friday. It is not necessary to bring the completed sheet back into school, this is purely for your child to practise their spellings at home.

Getting in Touch

I am aware given the current situation that it is difficult to speak with you at the start or end of the day. If you have any questions/concerns/worries, please do not hesitate to email me on and I will reply as soon as possible.

Thank you again for all of your support. I am really looking forward to the year ahead and working with your lovely children!
