Year 2 2021 - 2022

Miss Boyd

Welcome Year Two's class page. Here you will find details of our routines and other information regarding the curriculum in Year Two.

Happy New Year! Welcome back to Year 2. I hope you all had an enjoyable, restful Christmas break. Please find details below of changes to our topic and further details about the next exciting term ahead.

During Spring Term, our Topic is "Heroic Humans." We will be finding out just how incredible humans really are! In Science, we will explore what our basic needs of surivival are, the importance of eating a balanced diet and exercising, and all about our life cycle. In History, we will be looking at two incredible humans- Mary Seacole and Florence Nightingale. We will learn about how they made significant changes in the nursing world and how our hospitals today differ from those in the past. Reading Books

Reading plays a vital role in developing your child’s education. We will continue with daily Guided Reading lessons in school, but your support at home is invaluable. Your child will be sent home with a reading book and reading record. Please try to read every night; every second counts! Please remind your children to put their finished books in the finished box, so we can change the books as frequently as possible.

Our PE sessions are on a Wednesday and Thursday, but we aim to get outside and active as much as possible throughout the week. Therefore, please ensure your child has a fully labelled kit in school all week, should any changes in the timetable occur. Earrings must be removed on PE days. If your child has recently had their ears pierced, they should come to school with their ears taped on PE days.

Homework is now set in a homework book. Homework is due in on a Wednesday ready to be marked and handed back out on a Friday.

Children in Year Two have a weekly spelling test. The ten spellings will be sent home on a Friday and the test will be on the following Friday. It is not necessary to bring the completed sheet back into school, this is purely for your child to practise their spellings at home.

Getting in Touch

If you have any questions/concerns/worries, please do not hesitate to email me on and I will reply as soon as possible.

I am really looking forward to the year ahead with your children. Hopefully it will be more of a "normal" academic year and we can enjoy the whole year together!
