Wednesday of Holy Week

Bring the children together around the main prayer focus (if you are able to do so).

Remind them that this is a time of reflection and prayer.

Activity

Jesus predicted that his death was near and Holy Wednesday was the day that Judas betrayed Jesus for 30 silver coins.

“You are going to have the light just a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, before darkness overtakes you. Believe in the light while you have the light, so that you may become children of light.”

Jesus’ followers surely felt that they were in a shadow on the day after Jesus’ death, but hope remained.

Choose a word that reminds you of the hope they have in Jesus, such as love, hope, or forgiveness.

Draw the word in bubble letters on paper, card or cardboard and cut it out, or ask an adult to help you.

When your word is cut out, stand in front of a bright light (either using a light inside or using the sun outside) holding the poster to create a shadow.

Take a photo of the shadow and either tweet or email the photos so we can create a Shadow of Hope collage. If possible, hang the words in your rooms so the shadow it casts is a reminder that hope always remains in Jesus.
