The Wild Roadshow., by Mrs McGowan
Date: 13th Mar 2026 @ 3:59pm
We had an amazing time at the wild roadshow.
We met an African land snail called Sally. She has one foot.
Then we met a snake called Rio. He used his tongue to smell us.
We met a bearded dragon called Toby. He was covered in scales which told us he was a reptile.
We looked at a tarantula called in her box- she was too fragile to hold. She had eight hairy legs.
Finally we held a millipede called Mille. She had so many legs and it tickled our hands.
We really had a great time!

Year 5 Rivers Trip to Seven Acres Nature Reserve
On Wednesday 2nd of July, we went Seven Acres Nature Reserve to learn about Bradshaw Brook. We met Anna, who was our instructor for the day, as she explained the features of a river whilst we sat in the environmental centre. Next, we went on a river walk and she showed us a tree that had fallen into the river she showed us the erosion of the footpath as the river was in the winding middle course. After this, we measured the flow of the river using a measuring tape, a plastic duck and a stopwatch. We dropped the duck from the footbridge and timed how long it took to travel the distance. On this day, the flow was travelling 0.5 metres per second. In the afternoon, we used the nets to catch small aquatic creatures and place them in a tray to identify what they were. Some creatures we found included; midge fly, a flat bodied mayfly nymph and freshwater shrimp. My favourite part of the day was when we went kick sampling because it was really fun and we caught lots of interesting invertebrates. I would definitely do it again!

Science/Geography week, by Mrs McGowan
Date: 14th Mar 2025 @ 4:09pm
We have a fantastic week investigating life on Antarctica and how animals have adapted to live there.
We answered two key questions:
"How do penguins stay warm?"
and
"How do penguins stay dry?"
We completed two investigations to prove the answers to these questions.
We found out that penguins have a fatty layer called blubber which keeps them warm.
We also found out that their feathers are covered in a waterproof wax to keep them dry.
We have had lots of fun!
