Year 2 2022 - 2023
Miss Boyd
Welcome Year Two's class page.
Welcome to Year Two! Miss Boyd is the class teacher and Mrs Campbell and Miss Northend are our teaching assistants.
Here you will find details of our routines and other information about our curriculum. If you have any further questions, I am available at the end of each school day. Alternatively, you can email me at year2@st-pauls-hyde.tameside.sch.uk
SATs Information
As you will be aware, Year Two have to undertake their SATs tests during the month of May. These tests can be carried out at any point in May (unlike Year Six who have a scheduled timetable). It is vitally important that your child is in school everyday to ensure they do not miss any of these tests. As always, we work hard to ensure that the children do not feel any undue pressure and are well prepared for the tests. If you have any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to speak to me at the end of the day or via email on year2@st-pauls-hyde.tameside.sch.uk
Topic
Our topic for Summer term is 'Wiggle, Crawl and Grow' which is a Science based topic. We will be learning all about living things and their habitats, and how animals adapt for survival. We will also explore the life cycle of various animals and even have a chance to observe a wiggly creature up close... Reading Books
Reading plays a vital role in developing your child’s education. We will continue with daily Guided Reading lessons in school, but your support at home is invaluable. Your child will be sent home with a reading book and reading record. Most children will also receive a phonics book which will be changed once a week. This book will match your child's current phonics knowledge and should be a celebration of their wonderful independent reading. Please try to read every night; every second counts! Please remind your children to put their finished books in the finished box, so we can change the books as frequently as possible.
PE
Our PE sessions are on a Tuesday and Thursday, but we aim to get outside and active as much as possible throughout the week. Therefore, please ensure your child has a fully labelled kit in school all week, should any changes in the timetable occur. Earrings must be removed on PE days. If your child has recently had their ears pierced, they should come to school with their ears taped on PE days.
Homework
Homework is now set in a homework book. Homework is due in on a Wednesday ready to be marked and handed back out on a Friday.
Spellings
Children in Year Two have a weekly spelling test. The ten spellings will be sent home on a Friday and the test will be on the following Friday. It is not necessary to bring the completed sheet back into school, this is purely for your child to practise their spellings at home.
Getting in Touch
If you have any questions/concerns/worries, please do not hesitate to email me at year2@st-pauls-hyde.tameside.sch.uk and I will reply as soon as possible.
I am so excited for the year ahead with your wonderful children. Thank you in advance for your support.
