At St Paul's Primary School, we are dedicated to nurturing the whole child, equipping our pupils with the skills, knowledge, and understanding they need to lead healthy, safe, and fulfilling lives. Our PSHE (Personal, Social, Health, and Economic) education, alongside RSE (Relationships and Sex Education), is central to this development. We value PSHE and RSE as essential tools for supporting children’s growth as individuals, helping them understand and respect themselves, empowering them to have a voice, and preparing them for life and learning.

What PSHE Looks Like in EYFS

In Nursery and Reception, PSHE is part of everyday life.

Children learn through play, routines, and positive relationships rather than separate lessons.

We help them to:

  • Build friendships and play kindly

  • Develop confidence and independence

  • Understand and talk about their feelings

  • Learn simple healthy and safe habits

  • Show kindness and respect for others

Through stories, circle times, role-play, and daily interactions, we support children to feel safe, valued, and ready to learn.

What PSHE Looks Like in the KS1

In Years 1 and 2, PSHE helps children build important life skills through simple discussions, stories, and practical activities.

We help them to:

  • Understand their feelings and develop confidence

  • Form positive friendships and solve small problems

  • Learn about keeping healthy and staying safe

  • Begin to understand diversity, kindness, and respect

  • Make good choices and become more independent

PSHE is taught through lessons, circle times, and everyday routines, helping children grow into confident, caring, and responsible individuals.

What PSHE Looks Like in the KS2

In years 3,4,5 and 6, PSHE helps children develop the knowledge and skills they need as they grow. Through discussions, real-life scenarios, and age-appropriate lessons,

we will help them to:

  • Understand and manage a wider range of feelings

  • Build healthy friendships and navigate peer influence

  • Stay safe online and in the real world

  • Learn about healthy lifestyles and growing bodies

  • Develop confidence, resilience, and responsible decision-making

  • Understand diversity, respect, and the importance of inclusion

PSHE prepares children for the challenges of later primary years and helps them move towards secondary school as confident, thoughtful, and responsible young people.

Enrichment Activities

At St Paul’s, we are committed to placing our children’s personal development at the heart of everything we do.

Throughout their time at St Paul’s, pupils are given a range of opportunities to take part in PSHE enrichment activities such as becoming Special Friends to the younger members of our school, School Council Leaders, Sports Ambassadors, House Captains, Worship Leaders and...

They also have the chance to participate in fundraising events and nurture groups, helping them to build confidence, teamwork, and a strong sense of community.

Children in Key Stage 2 will also receive talks from the local fire service on fire safety, and PCSOs also visit the school to discuss personal safety, knife crime and community awareness.
