Year 5 Boys Reach Cup Final!

The Year 5 boy’s football team visited Curson Ashton on Friday afternoon to compete in the Danone Cup. The boys got off to a brilliant start against St. Mary’s, Denton; winning 3-1 in a very competitive first game.

In the second game, St. Paul’s played Our Lady of Mount Carmel. St. Paul’s had all of the possession and all of the best chances, hitting the woodwork several times. Incredibly, St Paul’s could not break the deadlock and the game finished 0-0.

The boys had to then play both teams again, this time showing their class going forward beating St. Mary’s 3-0 and Our Lady’s 5-0 in two impressive performances.

These strong performances meant that St. Paul’s qualified comfortably for the semi-final against Broadoak Primary School. The boys couldn’t have got off to a better start, scoring an impressive goal just 10 seconds after kick-off. They went from strength to strength during the game, scoring another two goals to qualify for the final against St. John Fisher.

The two undefeated teams in the tournament went head-to-head in a very close final. St. John Fisher broke the dead lock first but St. Paul’s were soon back in the game with a wonderful solo effort. Both teams had chances to win the game but with seconds remaining, St. John Fisher took the lead and finished overall winners.
