Year 6Sh 2021 - 2022

Mrs Shackleton

elcome to Year 6!

We are very excited to welcome Year Six back into school! Although some things are slightly different to before, there will still be lots of fun and learning taking place in our classroom!

This year, Mrs Kurucz will be our Teaching Assistant and Mrs Clegg will be out Lunchtime Supervisor. Mrs Wood will be working with us on a Monday and Tuesday and Mr Allen will be teaching the class all day Friday.

For information on Curriculum coverage, please take a look here: Please find below, further information about being in Year 6.

Reading Books

Reading in Year 6 is of great importance to your child’s education: children need to read a wide variety of texts as often as possible. Please try to read every night. Your child can now choose their school reading books by genre, which should not only help develop their love for reading but should help them choose a varied selection of books. Reading in year 6 can often be independent, but discussing books and reading together, where possible, at home can greatly help your child’s progress.

This term, in order to reduce the amount of paper/books moving between school and home, we will be asking children to complete homework online. Each week, a piece of English, Maths will be set on a Thursday and will need to be completed by the following Tuesday. A spelling list will be sent home every Thursday and a spelling test will take place the following Thursday. It is not required for the spelling sheet to be returned to school. If you have any difficulty in accessing the internet, please do not hesitate to contact school. We will ensure that other arrangements are made.

All relevant usernames and passwords will be sent home with your child.

Physical Education

P.E will take place on Wednesday each week. Children will need to ensure that their full P.E kit is in school on those days. All jewellery- including earrings-will need to be removed before school, and long hair must be tied back.

Children will be also going swimming on a Friday morning. Please can you ensure swimming kits are in school.

If there are any further questions, queries, or additional information you would like to share with me, then please do not hesitate to contact me on

Kind Regards,

Mrs Shackleton
