Year 5T 2019 - 2020

Mr Titterington

Welcome to Year 5T!

Summer term update: Thank you to all of the parents/carers who have continued to support your child’s education and learning whilst at home. I have enjoyed reading and seeing all of the activities that your children have been completing, and reading the comments sent through Purple Mash. Each week, new activities will be set for the children to complete on websites including Purple Mash, TTRockstars, Sumdog and the school website. The children will be able to complete other tasks on paper, such as using their school homework books. Home learning tasks will be uploaded on a weekly basis to our Year 5 home learning page, which is located under the Home Learning Tab, clicking Key Stage 2 and then Year 5. There will be activities for a range of subjects each week. Alternatively, this webpage can be found at this link: http://www.st-pauls-hyde.tameside.sch.uk/page/year-5/65277

A variety of additional websites providing home learning activities has also been collated by school. These can be found at the following webpage: http://www.st-pauls-hyde.tameside.sch.uk/page/key-stage-2/64175

If you need any further help or guidance with any of the home learning tasks, or have any questions, you can contact me via the Year 5T class email address, which is located on this webpage: http://www.st-pauls-hyde.tameside.sch.uk/page/school-contacts/65302

Again, I would like to thank you for your continued support with home learning during these difficult times. I look forward to seeing you all again soon.

Mr Titterington

This year Mrs Ingham will be our Year 5 teaching assistant.

Homework

During the summer term, both Year 5 classes will be given a homework menu. This menu will include a selection of 6 English and 6 Maths homework activities. Each week the children will be able to select their own homework to complete for that week. The order in which tasks are completed is the choice of the children. All 6 activities must be completed by the half term break in February. Homework books will need to be brought into school on a Tuesday (so that they can be marked) and will be returned to the children on a Thursday for the next homework to be completed. Some homework, such as using Times Table Rockstars will require not evidence in the children's books, for some activities the children may choose to write or show their calculations or ideas in their homework book.

Reading

The children will continue with their guided reading sessions daily in school. Additionally, each child will have an independent reading book which should be read regularly at home. Due to the importance of reading at this stage of the children’s development, I would like to highlight the significance of providing opportunities for reading at home. I encourage parents to listen to their children read aloud at home, and to write comments about their child’s reading in their reading records. Reading books will be changed when a parent/guardian have checked that their child has finished their book. Mrs Ingham will monitor the children’s reading books and the dates when they are changed, to ensure that consistent progress is being made in the children’s development.

Spellings and Times Tables

Beginning in the second week of this term, we will be focussing on a different spelling pattern each week. The children will receive a copy of their spellings each Monday to take home to practice. It is important that the children learn the spelling rule using the support of the spelling list. These spellings will be tested on a Friday.

Times table rockstars will still be available for the children to use during Year 5, with an aim to win the battle of bands each time they are set! We will continue to work on our times tables throughout Year 5.

P.E.

During this term, the children will have two P.E. sessions throughout the week. They have been asked to bring their P.E. kits in on a Monday, and take them home on a Friday. For the Summer term, Year 5T’s P.E. days will be Wednesday and Thursday.
