Year 5C 2019 - 2020

Miss Cobban

Update: Thank you to all of the parents/carers who are supporting children with their learning whilst at home. I hope you are all keeping safe. It has been great to see so many children completing work on Purple Mash and I enjoy looking at what the children have been getting up to at home. Each week, work will be set for children to complete. You can find this on the home learning tab of our school website. Some tasks will be set on Purple Mash, Times Tables Rockstars or Sumdog. Some tasks will be learning that can be done on paper or in homework books. If you need any passwords, have any questions or need any help, please feel free to email on Thank you for your continuous support during these difficult times. I am missing all of the children and look forward to seeing them all again soon. Miss Cobban

This year, Mrs Beswick will be our Year 5 Teaching Assistant.

In Year 5C, Maths and English homework will be set on a Friday each week and completed homework will be collected in on a Wednesday morning. If children complete their homework before Wednesday, they are able to hand it in earlier. This homework will need to be completed in the children’s maths and English books. Maths homework must be completed in pencil, whereas English homework may be completed in either pen or pencil. No felt tips or gel pens should be used. Additionally, topic, science or R.E homework may occasionally also be given to the children.

The children will continue with their guided reading sessions daily in school. Additionally, each child will have an independent reading book which should be read regularly at home. Due to the importance of reading at this stage of the children’s development, I would like to highlight the significance of providing opportunities for reading at home. I encourage parents to listen to their children read aloud at home, and to write comments about their child’s reading in their reading records. Reading books will be changed when a parent/guardian have checked that their child has finished their book. Mrs Beswick will monitor the children’s reading books and the dates when they are changed, to ensure that consistent progress is being made in the children’s development.

Spellings and Times Tables

Beginning in the second week of this term, we will be focussing on a different spelling pattern each week. The children will receive a copy of their spellings each Friday to take home to practice. It is important that the children learn the spelling rule using the support of the spelling list. These spellings will be tested on the following Friday.

Times table Rockstars will still be available for the children to use during Year 5, with an aim to win the battle of bands each time they are set! We will continue to work on our times tables throughout Year 5.

During this term, the children will have two P.E. sessions throughout the week. They have been asked to bring their P.E. kits in on a Monday and take them home on a Friday. For the Spring term, Year 5C’s P.E. days will be Wednesday and Thursday.

If you have any further questions or concerns you wish to discuss, feel free to call in to talk to myself or Mrs Beswick. If you require a longer conversation, please make an appointment at the office.

We look forward to continuing to work with you to ensure your children continue to reach their full potential!

Many thanks,

Miss Cobban
