Year 5T 2019 - 2020
Mr Titterington
Welcome to Year 5T!
Dear Parents,
We're back again for another year in Year 5! I hope you all enjoyed the Summer break . Please find below an overview of our curriculum for the Autumn term, and some brief information about Year 5. Hopefully, this information will answer most of the questions which you may have at the beginning of this year.
This year Mrs Ingham will be our Year 5 teaching assistant.
Homework
In Year 5, maths and English homework will continue to be set on a Thursday each week, and completed homework will be collected in on Monday morning. This homework will need to be completed in the children maths and English homework books. Maths homework must be completed in pencil, whereas English homework may be completed in either pen or pencil. No felt tips or gel pens should be used. Additionally, topic, science or R.E. homework may occasionally also be given to the children.
Reading
The children will continue with their guided reading sessions daily in school. Additionally, each child will have an independent reading book which should be read regularly at home. Due to the importance of reading at this stage of the children’s development, I would like to highlight the significance of providing opportunities for reading at home. I encourage parents to listen to their children read aloud at home, and to write comments about their child’s reading in their reading records. Reading books will be changed when a parent/guardian have checked that their child has finished their book. Mrs Ingham will monitor the children’s reading books and the dates when they are changed, to ensure that consistent progress is being made in the children’s development.
Spellings and Times Tables
Beginning in the second week of this term, we will be focussing on a different spelling pattern each week. The children will receive a copy of their spellings each Monday to take home to practice. It is important that the children learn the spelling rule using the support of the spelling list. These spellings will be tested on a Friday.
Times table rockstars will still be available for the children to use during Year 5, with an aim to win the battle of bands each time they are set! We will continue to work on our times tables throughout Year 5.
P.E.
During this term, the children will have two P.E. sessions throughout the week. They have been asked to bring their P.E. kits in on a Monday, and take them home on a Friday. For the Autumn half term, Year 5T’s P.E. days will be Wednesday and Thursday. Later this term the children will have swimming lessons.
