Year 2 2019 - 2020
Welcome Year 2's class page.
Update: Thank you for your support during this difficult and uncertain time. If you are looking for work to complete whilst your child is off, you will find links on the Key Stage 1 section of the 'Home Learning' tab at the top of the page. There you will find a list of suggested activities that could be completed. If you click Key Stage 1- Year 2, you will also find details of an email address which has been set up should you have any questions or want to email work to me. Alternatively, follow this link: http://www.st-pauls-hyde.tameside.sch.uk/page/school-contacts/65302 I will be trying to regularly update Purple Mash with 2Do activties and also there may be work to complete on our school website if children use their logins provided. Children can record any work however they like, whether it is in their homework books, on Purple Mash or just on a piece of paper. Thank you for your continuous support during this unprecedented time. Your children have worked so hard so far this year and I look forward to seeing them all again soon. Miss Boyd
Miss Boyd is the class teacher and Mrs Robinson is our teaching assistant. Mrs Wood will be supporting our learning on a Monday and Tuesday.
Reading plays a vital role in developing your child’s education. We will continue with daily Guided Reading lessons in school, but your support at home is invaluable. Your child will be sent home with a reading book and reading record. Please try to read every night; every second counts! Please remind your children to put their finished books in the finished box, so we can change the books as frequently as possible.
Our PE sessions are on a Tuesday and Thursday. Please ensure your child has a fully labelled kit in school all week, should any changes in the timetable occur. Earrings must be removed on PE days. If your child has recentlly had their ears pierced, they shoud come to school with their ears taped on PE days.
Homework in Year 2 has recently changed. Please see the letter sent out with homework on Friday 10th January. Each half term, children willl receive a 'Homework Menu' where they can choose which activities to complete. These activties are not compulsory, however we encourage children to complete one task a week. Children will still receive a set of 10 spellings on a Friday, which will be tested the following Friday.
This term, our topic is 'Nurturing Nurses'. We will be learning all about the significant women who improved nursing and healthcare during their lives, including Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole. We will be looking at how they changed the lives of the soldiers in their care, how they improved hospitals and changed the principles of nursing forever. On Friday 20th March, we were lucky enough to have our own Florence Nightingale workshop...we time time travelled and visited Scutari Hospital! Ask your child what else we got up to during the workshop.
As always, please feel free to speak to me at the start or end of the school day no matter what it concerns. Many thanks for your continued support.
